Who we are

Meet Josh Carlson, the face behind the name!

Josh grew up in Hutchinson, MN, where he learned to lay tile as a teenager at his older brother’s tiling business. After high school, he went off to college to earn his Bachelor’s degree in business, while continuing to learn the tile trade over the summers. In 2020, Josh graduated and married his college girlfriend Sarah. The two settled down in a fixer upper home in Baldwin City, KS, where Josh worked as a remodeling manager in KC and Sarah worked as an ICU nurse. Both Josh and Sarah share a love for home design and renovation, and they set to work gutting and reinventing one room at a time in their new home over the next several years (and counting - because when are home projects ever truly finished?).

Though he valued the time spent furthering his skills at his 9-5, Josh always had the vision of starting his own business one day. In 2022, that dream became reality, and Emerald Remodeling was born. The name “Emerald” pays homage to the dark green cabinets and gemstone-shaped hardware of Josh and Sarah’s kitchen remodel - their very first project together. Over the past several years, Josh has served clients from Topeka to Overland Park. Going into 2026, Josh will be celebrating his fourth year in business (and the birth of his first child, Callahan!). He enjoys every opportunity to build something new and is committed to keep on learning along the way. Josh would love to meet you and be a part of your next remodeling endeavor!
